About Book - Among the many initiatives towards making good-governance a reality, the implementation of e-governance by harnessing the immense potential of ICT has captured the centre stage. Governments around the world are embracing electronic governance. The recently launched schemes of Government of India for implementation of e-governance in urban local bodies demonstrate a holistic approach unlike the isolated one in the past and have offered opportunities for sustained improvement in efficiency and effectiveness in delivery of urban services.
The journey to e-governance, however, is not easy and is full of challenges. About Authors - Prof. Nishith Rai born on Oct. 1, 1963 at Allahabad (U.P.) is M.A. and Ph.D. in Ancient Indian History from Allahabad University. Dr. Rai is Professor in Ancient Indian History and Archaeology Department of Lucknow University and Director in the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies, Lucknow. He has authored four books and six edited books to his credit. Besides this, his numerous research papers have also been published in the reputed Journals, (i) Disaster Management in India (ii) Sustainable Urban Management (iii) Urban Governance in India (iv) Urban Management (v) Ancient Indian Society (vi) Ancient Indian Economy (vii) Trading Communities in Ancient India (viii) Nepal Sanskriti Evam Paryatan (ix) Nepal Ek Chitravlokan (x) Bharat Ke Pramukh Paryatan Utpad.
Dr. (Mrs.) Urmila Bagga is presently Joint Director in the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies, Lucknow. She is a Gold Medalist post- graduate in Public Administration from Lucknow University and Ph.D. in Political Science from Agra University. She has experience of thirty three years of directing and conducting research, national seminars, conferences, workshops, training programmes etc. on diverse aspects of urban administration and management. She has authored books, training modules and edited books relating to urban management to her credit. Her several research papers have also been published in reputed journals.
